Orthokeratology

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)  is a procedure that involves wearing specially designed rigid contact lenses overnight to reshape the curvature of the cornea. Patients using these lenses, take them off their eyes in the morning and enjoy clear vision without glasses or soft contacts during the day. The results of this procedure are amazing and happen pretty fast and all while you sleep!

Ortho-K is used to treat low to moderate nearsightedness (myopia) or farsightedness and low degrees of astigmatism and presbyopia.

Patients of all ages, kids and adults can be good candidates. Our youngest patient is a 6 year old and the oldest is in his early 70s.

We fit kids with these contacts to slow down the progression of their nearsightedness, so that when they reach adulthood they don't end up with sever myopia and get into higher risk of developing  pathologies like retinal detachment, glaucoma etc . When these kids reach adulthood and want to consider refractive surgery it won't be out of the question for them due to too high of a myopia.

Adult patients use these lenses in order to free themselves from the need of vision correction while they are awake and active.

Lastly, these lenses can last for years!! If the prescription remains stable, unlike soft lenses, the hard lenses can be used safely for years.
