The Importance Of Pediatric Optometry

It is important to make sure that children’s eyes are healthy and that their vision does not affect their safety or school performance. On top of this, children need to develop visual skills such as eye teaming, movement and focusing. A child’s first few eye exams should take place when they are 6 months old, then at 3 years old, and then begin yearly exams when they go into the first grade at 5 or 6 years old. When determining the time at which you would like to schedule an eye exam, try to choose a time that your child is energetic and attentive. At the exam itself, your doctor will ask about the child’s and their biological parent’s medical history and it is important to mention if they have been frequently rubbing their eyes, blinking more than usual, has a hard time focusing up close, or delayed/premature motor development.
